In an objective, you are telling the potential employer what you are looking for in terms of a position. What most don't understand, though, is that you should word the objective to tell the potential employer what you can actually do for them. So you do not say you want to gain experience or further your career.  Think of what they want, what they need.

A resume objective should include the position you are trying to get.  If you're applying for a certain job that's been advertised, such as an purchasing manager, use that exact title in your objective. This creates a 'match' as far as your resume and the available position goes. If new to the job market, you could say 'An entry-level position'. If looking for a position as a manager then say so in your objective. For example 'Objective: A management position with (insert company name) in the Accounting department that will utilize my MBA and fifteen years of management experience.'

In your objective you should state the position, by name, that you're looking for. If education is related to the open position, you can briefly mention it. Experience that's related to the job should be stated in your objective. Try to show, via your resume objective, that you're a match for the position, qualified for it, and will be an asset to the company in the position. Those chosen to go on through the interview process are the people who they feel are the closest match to the opening.
